About Tala
Tala El-Achkar | TAH-la ehl-ash-CAR
I’m a psychotherapist, clinical supervisor, and lifelong student of the ways our early worlds shape who we become. At the heart of my work is a belief that healing happens in relationship — to ourselves, to others, and to the stories we carry.
In my therapy practice, I work with individuals navigating the complexity of identity, diaspora, intergenerational trauma, and ambiguous or migratory loss. Many of the people I work with carry histories that have been dismissed, pathologized, or fragmented. I offer a space where those stories can be met with care, curiosity, and respect — without rush or assumption.
I work slowly and collaboratively, drawing from psychodynamic, somatic, and trauma-informed frameworks. My approach is attuned to how early experiences live in the present, and guided by the pace and needs of the person in front of me.
As a clinical supervisor, I support students in building confidence, depth, and a grounded sense of their own therapeutic voice. I offer practicum training that is both rigorous and relational, combining clinical development with mentorship in the realities of private practice — from case formulation to profile building, to sustaining a practice that is ethical, reflective, and client-centered.
My Lebanese-Palestinian identity and diasporic experience shape the way I hold space: with an ear to the personal, the political, and the ancestral. I strive to create environments — both therapeutic and supervisory — that are rooted, reflective, and expansive.
